GCSE Biology Course

This is a one year revision course intended to stimulate interest in and enjoyment of Biology. The course is to enable students who reach a required standard of academic work and with a good attendance record to be entered for the GCSE examination. Content GCSE Biology covers a number of areas including: Cells Circulation Nutrition and digestion, Plants and photosynthesis, Breathing Nervous System Hormones and regulation, Health and disease Infections and defence mechanisms, Genetics Ecology Evolution Micro-organisms. There are two assessment components: 3 written examination papers each worth 25% of the total marks. Centre-assessed unit including a controlled assessment worth 25% of the total marks. Features/Benefits The course provides an interesting and stimulating introduction to biology covering topics including human anatomy and physiology, health, genetics, evolution and ecology. Practical work, including assessed investigations enables students to gain laboratory and analytical skills. Entry Requirements Grade D in either GCSE Science, English Language or Maths. You must be over 16, willing to work diligently and attend lessons regularly. You should have a sound educational background and an interest in biology. Progression Opportunities On successful completion of the course you may be able to progress to: AS or A Level, GNVQ, BTEC Extended Diploma and / or Gain appropriate employment.
